Meet the Hair Reduction Team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is staffed by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Ke He, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site and assesses hair colour and skin type before any light treatment is planned. A comparison of this kind also involves the other three: the surgical assessment when the concern is hair loss rather than unwanted hair, the assessment of the hairline and the face, and the dermatological care of a skin condition or a reaction after treatment.

Who reviews this content

Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Skin and laser aesthetics · hair reduction · skin type assessment

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Both instruments in this comparison arrive at the same consultation, and Dr. He treats them as two tools rather than as a stronger and a weaker version of one treatment. Her part of the decision is the contrast between the hair and the skin: the colour and coarseness of the hair, the skin type, how the skin behaved after any previous light treatment, and whether the area is one that a course will realistically cover. She says plainly when the honest answer is that neither instrument will work, which is the case for light, grey, red and white hair, and she will not begin a course on hair that will not respond to it.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of hair colour and skin type before any light treatment
  • Choosing between a single-wavelength instrument and broadband light for the area
  • Recognition of medicines and skin conditions that make light treatment unsafe
  • Recognition and management of a burn or a pigment change after treatment
  • Judging when a course should stop rather than continue

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

One limitation both options share

Both depend on contrast between the colour of the hair and the colour of the skin, so both work best on dark hair on lighter skin and both fall away for light, grey, red and white hair. Neither instrument gets around that.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · surgical hair restoration

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

On this site Dr. Wang is the second opinion for a patient whose concern turns out to be hair loss rather than unwanted hair, which is a different problem with different answers.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · facial contour and proportion

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is refinement and honest referral: he is the person who says so when an operation will do better than an injectable or a device.

His part of the decision is the hairline and the face around it, and the cases in which the concern is better addressed by an operation than by a course of light treatment.

Clinical focus

  • Aesthetic surgical assessment and refinement of contour and asymmetry
  • Honest referral when surgery outperforms a course of injections
  • Shared case planning within the four-physician team
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · skin disease and delayed reactions

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

A skin condition in the treated area is assessed dermatologically before a course begins, and a reaction appearing after treatment is assessed rather than assumed to pass, because not every late change is caused by the light.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with an assessment, not a decision

Arrange an assessment. It establishes the colour of your hair against your skin type, which instrument suits the area, and whether either option is suitable at all.
